What are  Coffee Chats?

Academic Coffee Chats offer a unique and advantageous opportunity for students who are undecided on their major or undecided on which college to attend. Through a coffee chat, college-bound high school students can virtually speak with successful and ambitious colleges students and ask them questions about their majors or colleges to make a more informed decision.

Two Types of Coffee Chats

Academic Coffee Chat

Studies indicate that an estimated 20-50% of students enter college undecided, while an estimated 75% report having changed their major at least once. Don’t let your child waste time and money pursuing a degree that he/she is not 100% passionate. An Academic Coffee Chat allows a high school student the opportunity to meet virtually with college students who are actively pursuing a degree in the field that the high school student is considering. For instance, if a high school student is considering a degree in either business or engineering, he/she can have an Academic Coffee Chat with a college business student and a college engineering student. He/she can ask about the degree requirements, course load, career opportunities, etc. In this manner, they will receive the facts about a major instead of the surface-level fluff that many universities will post on their website to attract graduating high school seniors.

College-Decision Coffee Chat

Choosing the right college is a very important decision for a high school student but equally a very stressful one. With "senioritis" kicking in, it is difficult for a high school student to do research into the offerings of schools they like. Likewise, it is often difficult to discern the facts from the fluff. Collège-Decision Coffee Chats aims to pair a high school student with a college student at the college(s) of their interest. We will pair these students based on major, extracurriculars, hobbies, athletics, etc. Once paired, the high school student can chat with the college student and ask them as many questions as they would like to get a feel for the university. Parents are also highly encouraged to sit in on these meetings to learn as well.
